Intracellular Signalling: Chloroplast Backchat
نویسنده
چکیده
Chloroplast-derived signals modulate expression of nuclear genes for chloroplast proteins. GUN1 has recently been identified as a chloroplast-localized pentatricopeptide repeat protein that integrates information from several different signalling pathways.

Intracellular Signalling: The Language of the Chloroplast
Chloroplasts emit signals that modulate nuclear gene expression, thereby ensuring the proper assembly of the photosynthetic apparatus. Recent studies have provided major new insights into one of these signalling mechanisms, and identified the chlorophyll precursor Mg-protoporphyrin IX as a key signalling molecule.
متن کاملCovariations in the nuclear chloroplast transcriptome reveal a regulatory master-switch.
The evolution of the endosymbiotic progenitor into the chloroplast organelle was associated with the transfer of numerous chloroplast genes into the nucleus. Hence, inter-organellar signalling, and the co-ordinated expression of sets of nuclear genes, was set up to control the metabolic and developmental status of the chloroplast. Here, we show by the differential-expression analysis of 3,292 g...
متن کاملInfluence of plastids on light signalling and development.
In addition to their contribution to metabolism, chloroplasts emit signals that influence the expression of nuclear genes that contribute to numerous plastidic and extraplastidic processes. Plastid-to-nucleus signalling optimizes chloroplast function, regulates growth and development, and affects responses to environmental cues. An incomplete list of plastid signals is available and particular ...
متن کاملPlastid-nucleus communication involves calcium-modulated MAPK signalling
Chloroplast retrograde signals play important roles in coordinating the plastid and nuclear gene expression and are critical for proper chloroplast biogenesis and for maintaining optimal chloroplast functions in response to environmental changes in plants. Until now, the signals and the mechanisms for retrograde signalling remain poorly understood. Here we identify factors that allow the nucleu...
متن کاملBlue light signalling in chloroplast movements.
Chloroplast movements are among the mechanisms allowing plants to cope with changes in their environment. Chloroplasts accumulate at illuminated cell areas under weak light while they avoid areas exposed to strong light. These directional responses may be controlled by blue and/or red light, depending on the plant group. In terrestrial angiosperms only the blue light perceived by phototropins i...
